Lotions, Creams, Whipped Body Butters, & Soufflés... Knowing the difference

There is a real distinction between lotions, creams, whipped body butters & Whipped Body Soufflés.  The biggest differences are water content, texture, consistency, how they're made, and how they feel on the skin.

Lotion
A lightweight emulsion of water + oils/butters Thin, fluid Yes Light, quick-absorbing.
Lotion is generally the lightest of the four. It's an emulsion, meaning water and oils are combined with an emulsifier to create a stable product.

Because of its higher water content, lotion spreads easily and tends to absorb quickly without leaving a heavy or oily feeling.

Think: lightweight, everyday hydration

Cream
A richer emulsion with more oils/butters than lotion Thick, smooth Yes Richer, more moisturizing.
Cream is also generally an emulsion, but it's usually thicker and richer than lotion because it contains a higher proportion of oils, butters, or other emollients.

A cream gives you that beautiful rich texture while still having water as part of the formula.

Think: rich, smooth, deeply moisturizing.

Whipped Body Butter
An anhydrous blend of butters + oils, whipped with air Fluffy, dense, buttery, rich, nourishing, melts into skin.
A traditional body butter is generally anhydrous, meaning no added water. It's made primarily from oils and/or butters and is whipped to incorporate air and create a soft, fluffy texture.

When it touches warm skin, the butter can melt and glide across the body, leaving a rich protective layer.

Think: rich, buttery, nourishing, protective.

Whipped doesn't automatically mean soufflé.
A whipped body butter is still fundamentally a body butter—
the whipping changes the texture and experience.

Whipped Body Soufflé
A lighter, ultra-fluffy whipped body treatment, typically formulated to feel more airy than traditional butter Very fluffy, airy, cloud-like, silky, luxurious, melts beautifully.

"Soufflé" is best understood as a texture/style designation rather than a strict cosmetic category. It describes something that's been whipped into an exceptionally light, airy, cloud-like consistency.

B33thavib3 calling products a Whipped Body Soufflé, is communicating a specific experience

A luxurious, ultra-light whipped body treatment that feels airy and fluffy in the jar, then melts effortlessly into the warmth of the skin.

Use of ingredients like beeswax, honey, oils, butters, and arrowroot also gives a beautiful story around the sensory experience: the beeswax and butters contribute structure and richness, while the oils provide slip, and arrowroot can help reduce some of that overly greasy finish.

👑 The simplest customer-friendly distinction:
Lotion → light & fluid
Cream → rich & smooth
Whipped Body Butter → rich & buttery
Whipped Body Soufflé → airy, fluffy & luxurious
